Light Switch Puzzle

How can you find out which switch goes to which light? You can only go in the other room to check the lights one time.

Hmmm… You can …
Hmmm… You can stay in the room and turn one switch on and
off 500,000 times. When you’re done, flip another switch on and go outside. The burnt out light bulb is #1 the one that is on is #2 and the one off is #3. This would work, however there may be a quicker solution.
