As an amateur writer, myself I’ve noticed the Uncanny valley when building a World or Universe to tell a story.Stories like Harry Potter and LOTR sit on one end and Many famous Non-Fiction sit on the other. I wonder if this Uncanny Valley theory Applies in a similar fashion?

From a writing standpoint, I think the Uncanny Valley might apply to the personalities of characters, as well as their appearance.

Very good video. I don’t understand why video games are so against stylization. I’m a huge fan of Hayao Miyazaki’s movies (non-weirdly sexualized anime) and the stylization in no way interferes with immersion (which SHOULD be the goal). Besides, if we would worry less about realism in the graphics, we could actually have games that suck less.

Oh, and just because we know this stuff already does not mean that we are not interested in seeing lectures on it. I find it valuable in other ways. For example, my father is not into video games, but he is a set designer for film and theater, and he does have some interest in how video games tackle some of the same issues he has had to deal with in a different medium.

Hmm… Alyx from HL2, propably the best npc I’ve run to. And I guess she (or it) should be considered realistic in a way.
I believe that the uncanny valley in games exists only because devs don’t do a good enough job with the animation. It’s easy to spend time on building a beautiful model and then waste it by not giving it a detailed enough animation.

Very well done. Informative, clever and occassionally funny. Just one question, does Yahtzee know you do these? Because if not he should, I’m sure he’d be glad to know someone can replicate his format well but not totally rip it off.
